Ever since Martin started his career at a maritime cluster organization in 1993, he was drawn to shipbuilding and shipping markets. It led him to pursue a job as a shipbuilding expert at the Dutch ministry of economic affairs. It was there where he got to know all the important players in the maritime industry and got familiar with international affairs through his work at the EU and OECD.

Martin’s experience at the Dutch ministry led him to become responsible for several maritime trade associations. He merged the marine equipment and shipbuilding associations into one strong representative body for the Dutch manufacturing industries.

Apart from his leadership role in central representative bodies, Martin’s fun is in maritime market research. Over the past few years, he published maritime market reports on West Africa, The Netherlands, Turkey, Indonesia, and Myanmar, and he initiated the international ‘maritime hotspots’ project. He was involved in the evaluation of the Dutch National Shipping Policy and in several short sea shipping-publications.
